This #MissionMonday, we want to share a bit more about the tremendous opportunity we have from the Dickson County Government to ensure that our mission continues through the formation of the Dickson County Help Center Endowment Fund. So, what is an endowment fund? In simple terms, an endowment fund is a savings account that invests donated funds, using the interest earned to support our work long-term. We have an incredible opportunity! The Dickson County Government is offering a dollar-for-dollar match up to $100,000 for us to establish an endowment fund, which means every dollar you donate is doubled! But there's a catch—we must raise these matching funds by June 30th for the government to grant us this match. We're just $13,000 away from reaching our goal and have only two weeks left! With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Tim Sprankle, our beloved Thrift Store Manager at the Dickson County Help Center. Tim joined our team in May 2020 and quickly made an unforgettable mark with his quiet, gentle spirit and unwavering dedication. He was a constant presence and a pillar of strength and guidance. Tim was more than just a manager; he was a counselor, a peacemaker, and a protector. His calming demeanor brought peace to the entire team. He was meticulous in everything he did, ensuring the Help Center Thrift Store operated smoothly and efficiently. A mentor to his team, Tim knew how to encourage growth and excellence. His leadership has left a lasting legacy. Tim's love for laughter was infectious. He had a knack for brightening up the room. One of our cherished memories is his daily trivia at the start of our team meetings, a tradition that brought joy and camaraderie. We will deeply miss the small touches he brought to our world. Tim was a devoted husband to his wife, Kay, for 24 wonderful years. Their love and partnership were a testament to his character and heart. As we mourn his loss, we take comfort in the scripture that reflects his life and spirit: "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." (2 Timothy 4:7) Rest in peace, Tim. Your legacy of compassion, leadership, and laughter will forever be remembered and cherished. Many children in Dickson County depend on school-provided meals for their daily nutrition. The Backpack Food Program discreetly fills students' backpacks with nutritious, easy-to-prepare foods each week to ensure no child goes hungry over the weekend. It's #MissionMonday, and we want to shine a light on an incredible program that provides hope to folks in our community impacted by disasters! The House in a Box Program is an initiative that provides critical items to disaster survivors to furnish an entire home, including everything from the kitchen to the bathroom to the bedroom. The St. Vincent de Paul Society collaborates with Amazon to find the best prices for new items. These items are purchased with grants and provided to families affected by major disasters at no charge. Additionally, the items are delivered from Amazon for free to their homes. If you're a disaster survivor, you can apply to receive some or all of the following items: Beds, Linens, Dishes, Pots & Pans, Dressers, Silverware, Bathroom Setup, Dinette, Couch, and more! IMPORTANT - This is the very last time to apply for this assistance. All qualifying applicants must apply by April 10th in person at the Dickson County Help Center. It's #FoodBankFriday! This week, we've supported 80 families through our food bank, thanks to the generosity of our friends and community. Although we have plenty of food to give out and lots of certain items, we sometimes need more of a specific food item. A simple way to help would be donating a can of tomato paste and a packet of instant spaghetti sauce - as a bundle, they're less than $2 but make a significant impact. It's #ThriftStoreThursday! Every week, we have new items in our thrift store, and this week, we are featuring a beautiful Fire King Jadeite batter bowl on sale for $40! Here are a few fun facts about Jadeite: 🛒 These dishes were designed to be practical and beautiful. They were available in the 1940s and 1950s in hardware stores, department stores, and five-and-dimes. They were often even given away for free in flour bags or cereal boxes to encourage people to collect the entire set. 💚 The green color of the Jadeite dishes was chosen specifically to make people feel better during the Great Depression. 🥣 Anchor Hocking's FireKing made many Jadeite dish lines from 1945 to 1975, including Royal Ruby, Philbe, and Jadeite in Alice, Jane Ray, and Restaurant Ware designs. ⚛️ Early Jadeite dishes from McKee and Jeannette contained uranium, making them slightly radioactive until WWII's demand for uranium stopped. (Don't worry, this bowl is NOT radioactive!) The Help Center is celebrating 45 years of serving people in need in our community in June. To mark this occasion, we are launching a new Endowment Fund, thanks to a $100,000 dollar-for-dollar match from the Dickson County Government and a generous $25,000 gift from @tristar_bank to get us started! Our goal is to raise $200,000 (including the match) this year to hit our ambitious target of $1,000,000 by our 50th Anniversary in 5 years. We must raise $100,000 to receive the match by our June 30, 2024 deadline. With our endowment fund, we can ensure that no one goes without food, shelter, clothing, and emergency needs.
