Qualifying families can receive perishable and non-perishable food, allowing families to stretch their dollars and spend their resources on other basic needs.
DCHC provides food for nearly 2,000 Dickson County families (over 4,000 individuals). Many of the families fed receive little to no food stamps.
Assistance is available for eligible families who have had a financial crisis which led to falling behind on rent, utility bills and other urgent needs such as clothing, medication, gas/automotive repair and homeless assistance such as providing short-term hotel stays, bus tickets or gas for travel.
Volunteers deliver food to the elderly and disabled from the DCHC Food Pantry who are unable to come to the Help Center. Currently, 65-70 shut-ins receive assistance each month throughout Dickson County.
With the support of local businesses, DCHC holds food distribution events within the community so families and individuals facing hunger have another source for food.
Last year, there were 24 Second Harvest Mobile Food Pantries that provided food for up to 250 families each giveaway along with five USDA Food Give-A-Ways in Vanleer and the Harpeth Ridge Volunteer Fire Department.
DCHC is dedicated to helping clients become more independent by offering one-on-one financial counseling.
Food, financial aid, temporary shelter, furniture and other household items are available for those due displaced to fire or other natural disasters.
An important part of holidays is sharing a meal together with loved ones. DCHC distributes nearly 1,000 turkeys and the fixings during the holidays to families in need.
